Instagram:



Instagram was founded on 6 October 2010 by Kevin System and Mike kireger.
A) Purpose:
The purpose of Instagram is to entertain people and make them to look each others photos and also post their own photos and they can like and comment their photos, which is a way to make friends and let people socialise.

B) Content:
Every user has a followers and following count which can show that how many users are following them and also how many users they are following. Instagram as a photo sharing app, it is a square image format and people can share photos for people to double tap to like or press the little heart which means like.

C) Target user/membership
The target users of Instagram are mainly focused on teenagers and young adults. Distribution of Instagram users worldwide as of January 2018, by age group. This statistic provides information on the distribution of Instagram users worldwide as of January 2018, sorted by age group. During the survey period it was found that 30percent of global Instagram users were aged between 25 and 34 years.

D) Source of revenue:
 Instagram makes its money from advertising, just like Facebook. Facebook doesn't break outInstagram's financials, but Facebook overall derived about 93% of its fourth-quarter revenue from ads. Ad revenue for the quarter was $3.59 billion, a 53% increase from the same quarter the year before. 

E) Legal/ Ethical issues:
 Instagram proposed that the parents of minor children needed to ask them consent about using their children's images for advertising purposes. The new terms and conditions wants people under the age of 18 to be able to sign and agree to having an account.

Facebook:



Facebook was founded on February 4, 2004, by Mark Zukerberg. 
A) Purpose:
The purpose of Facebook is to see what other people are up to and to see what other people are doing across the world, Facebook has a very wide range of users and it has a purpose is to help people to become more socialise and they also advertise things from the website which entertain people with videos that are shared by other people. 

B) Content:
Facebook is a website which you need to sign up and have to set up an email address and upload a profile picture, then you can add friends using that account and you can write statues for friends to see it and you can also chat with them on Facebook.

C) Target user/membership:
The target user of Facebook is in a wide range, between all ages, but the main users are aged around 30-40 year old's because teenagers nowadays are more into Instagram and snapchat.
  
D) Source of revenue:
 Facebook makes money a number of ways however advertising is the company's revenue channel. With self-serve ads becoming a booming business for Facebook and with the growth of Engagement Ads, Facebook could be on track to generate up to $1 billion in revenue this year.

E) Legal/ Ethical issue:
 On Facebook, most of your personal information are shared with other people, which may turn things into bad direction, so you could easily leak your information to someone else.

Snapchat:



Snapchat was founded on 16 September 2011 by Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy. 
A) Purpose:
The purpose of snapchat is to allow users to capture videos and pictures, Snapchat is primarily used for creating multimedia messages referred to as "snaps"; snaps can consist of a photo or a short video, and can be edited to include filters and effects, text captions, and drawings. The ability to send video snaps was added as a feature option in December 2012.

B) Content:
Snapchat is an app you sign up with your email first, then you can start adding people and send them photos from 1 to 10 seconds and then they will be able to view it once. Your friends can also be able to send message or photos back to you. Filters are also available for users to use for their photos.

C) Target users:
The target users of snapchat are mainly teenagers because the content of snapchat is very fitting their needs, Sending each other photos, chatting with their friends. On April 2013, only 2% of those 35 and older used Snapchat, compared with 5% of those 25 to 34 years old and 24% of those 18 to 24 years old.

D) Source of revenue:
The company plans to make somewhere around $300 million in revenue this year, up from a $50 million revenue target last year. ... The same way other internet companies like Google and Facebook make money: Advertising! Snapchat shows users ads in a number of key places inside the app.

E) Legal/ Ethical issues: 
 Snapchat can also be a Sharpe weapon for those stalkers, they could send pictures of people without their consent. Snapchat also made easier for teenagers to sext, which people could use those to do worse things like criminal.

Comparing all four social media pages, most of them are looking very simple and straight forward. All using very limited colours and all have big empty space somewhere on the page. We can see that all the log in area are in the top right corner and the background colour are often the symbol colour of the app.
